Requirements<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>for<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>integration<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>model-<\/span>based<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>definition<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>product<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>life<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>cycle<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Philipp<\/span>\u00a0Zeilinger<\/span><\/span><\/a>,<\/span><\/span> 17.08.2021<\/span><\/span><\/em>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The digital product definition through model-based definition enables p<\/span>aperless engineering<\/span>\u00a0and can contribute to a more sustainable and efficient future<\/span>\u00a0in engineering<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>In order to<\/span>\u00a0take full advantage of this method, several requirements must be met<\/span>. As a part of a bachelor thesis,\u00a0<\/span>the requirements<\/span>\u00a0as well as the potential benefits were analysed based on the\u00a0<\/span>state-of-the-art<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0technical infrastructure.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]For\u00a0<\/span>companies, which<\/span>\u00a0develop products for the aviation industry, the product development process and the resulting\u00a0<\/span>product\u00a0<\/span>data\u00a0<\/span>are important when it comes to\u00a0<\/span>data integrity,\u00a0<\/span>efficiency,<\/span>\u00a0and competitiveness<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0In this process, many documents can be created, depending on the product itself, the individual processes and systems of a company,\u00a0<\/span>as well as<\/span>\u00a0on<\/span>\u00a0the complexity and diversity of variants.\u00a0<\/span>In addition<\/span>, the\u00a0<\/span>traditional<\/span>\u00a0dual<\/span>\u00a0product definition through three dimensional models and drawings leads to\u00a0<\/span>reproduction<\/span>\u00a0of<\/span>\u00a0data<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and complex relationship patterns<\/span>\u00a0within the product data management system<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Through the product definition with model-based definition (MBD) the management of product data can be simplified. When this product-defining method is fully integrated, drawings no longer have to be derived from the three-dimensional models, as products are defined through a single three-dimensional data set. (Figure 1) As a result of this single source definition, the amount of data in circulation can be reduced, relationship patterns are simplified, and data integrity is improved. Furthermore, the semantic definition of MBD-Datasets in computer aided design systems can reduce errors in product data, as a standardized and system aided definition of form tolerances, position tolerances and datum systems can be applied. In addition, compatible computer aided systems can process digital product data automatically, which enables reduced process times and ensures fewer typing errors. As a result, the administrative effort, time to market and costs can be reduced.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=“2905″ img_size=“full“ alignment=“center“][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]The advantages seem huge<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>but what\u00a0<\/span>must<\/span>\u00a0be done to fully integrate MBD and\u00a0<\/span>is the technical infrastructure mature enough to take<\/span>\u00a0full<\/span>\u00a0advantage of the benefits?<\/span>\u00a0In order to answer this questions, different methods<\/span>\u00a0such as process modelling with the business process model and notation (BPMN) method, as well as\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>development analysis with the quality function deployment (QFD) method<\/span>\u00a0were applied<\/span>. On the one hand<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0to identify the interfaces<\/span>\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>processing<\/span>\u00a0systems<\/span>\u00a0and stakeholder<\/span>s\u00a0<\/span>within the product lifecycle<\/span>, and on the other hand<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to analy<\/span>s<\/span>e the requirements of the data processing\u00a0<\/span>stakeholders<\/span>\u00a0for the integration of MBD<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>as well\u00a0<\/span>as\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0define the<\/span>\u00a0integration parameters\u00a0<\/span>on which\u00a0<\/span>should be focussed on<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The analysis showed that different requirements must be met for an appropriate integration of MBD. In order to define products with semantic and machine-readable product manufacturing information (PMI), a suitable computer aided design system must be available. In addition, the processing of the data in the product lifecycle must be enabled for users and systems without creating further data derivatives. Therefore, interfaces and systems must be extended to avoid data duplication. Nevertheless, the necessary data storage in the products lifetime must be ensured, whereby a derivation of the basic MBD data into a neutral data format becomes necessary. In order to maintain data integrity, an automated process that derives a neutral 3D PDF when the MBD data is released in the product lifecycle management (PLM) system is recommended.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Therefore, investments in the computer aided infrastructure<\/span>, as well as in a PLM-System<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>are<\/span>\u00a0necessary to enable the processing of MBD data in the whole product lifecycle<\/span>\u00a0and to ensure data integrity. Furthermore, the analysis showed that computer aided systems and stakeholders can read the MBD data if interfaces are extended. Unfortunately, they are not able to process data\u00a0<\/span>automatically, because\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>software<\/span>\u00a0infrastructure, such as\u00a0<\/span>computer aided manufacturing, computer aided quality and coordinate measuring machine systems<\/span>\u00a0are not yet able to process the data adequately<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>In conclusion, the integration of MBD is technically possible. However, the strategic and monetary benefits\u00a0<\/span>have to<\/span>\u00a0be analysed in detail\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>computer aided<\/span>\u00a0systems must be further developed in order to\u00a0<\/span>take full<\/span>\u00a0advantages\u00a0<\/span>of the benefits\u00a0<\/span>of MBD in the future<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
